"Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response." Viktor Frankl
Like most people I really enjoy quotes - quotes that make me think, make me smile and inspire me. But then after reading them and embracing the comforting warmth of insights I agree with, like most people, I return to the routine of my daily life. The result being like some motivational speaker who challenges me for a brief period only for me to settle back into familiar thoughts, habits and activities. What's the missing link? How can we use the words to change our actions? How can we use them to change the way we think or shake us out of the comfort of our familiar patterns to do more, be more and influence the world for the better? What is the change agent? The change, in my opinion, comes from the filter we put the quotes or words through in our minds. Is your filter educational, entertaining or emotional? What happens when you read the words that bring a wry smile to your face and massage your mind? Do you say to yourself "Boy I certainly agree with that" and leave it there or do you issue an emotional challenge to yourself - and then follow it up with action items? Measurable action items. Do you align the quote with a character trait you need to improve and do you commit to an action? Quotes inspire us, educate us and emotionally effect us. Until we use them to challenge our character and actions they are words and nothing more. Make quotes something more - a source of fuel to be more and do more. Emotional drivers that hold us accountable to "Be the change you want to see in the world".
